You have the right to make all of the final decisions about the healthcare you receive. If you don't want certain treatments, you have the right to refuse them, either orally or in writing. But in some situations, if you're unconscious, badly injured or very ill, you may be unable to express your wishes to the doctor. In case you become unable to express your wishes yourself, you may wish to create a living will or a power of attorney. A living will is a document that instructs doctors not to perform certain types of treatment. A power of attorney names an agent who will make healthcare decisions on your behalf.
